Community College Transfer Students Are Top Quality
72Intro
Community college transfer students get accepted to the top colleges and universities in the United States. They graduate in the top percentages of their class and drive up college scores. They really shine when it comes to landing jobs, having a successful career, and becoming renowned leaders in their respective fields.
The Realest Students
Students who attend community colleges, transfer from community colleges, and receive acceptance into top ranking universities are my favorite. Generally, they are down to earth, hard working, and very intelligent. They have high aspirations and appreciate what they have in the present.
Andrew Flagel, associate vice president for enrollment development and dean of admissions at George Mason University stated,"Colleges, particularly driven by some of the policies of the current administration, are realizing that transfer students are a tremendous source of quality students and diverse students, and as a result many colleges are … finally beginning to adjust to more rational transfer policies" (New York Times).
Why?
While I can't speak for everyone, most people who go to community college have a more active family life. Being home, community college students interact with their parents more often than students away at college. The students who are lucky enough to maintain a loving relationship with their parents receive additional support during their first years of college. The students, who do not have great relationships at home, learn to deal with unforeseeable obstacles and persevere. Either way, there is a sense of responsibility that comes with being home. I would like to argue that it is this sense of responsibility that carries through in the student's successful college and working careers. (Have more reasons why community college students are great? Post it in the comments!)
After Transferring
Top transfer students go on to universities like NYU, UPENN, George Washington University, Dartmouth, Rice University, Yale, and more. They always have an adjustment period, but succeed soon after (in most cases). At their new college, the transfer students bring outside exposure and diversity to the classroom. Their past plays to their advantage as they continue to near the end of their college career...
Working Career
Here is where the ingrained characteristics of community college transfers really kicks in. On the job, the transfer students are able to adapt to different environments faster. Combining their ability to learn quickly and rigorous work ethic, they are loved by employers and rise to the top of their fields. Transfer students include previous CEO's, college presidents, supreme Justices, treasurer of the United States, olympic medalists, and more.
Wrap Up
